Film 5 (First roll of Ilford HP5 400)

This was my first time shooting black and white. I found that looking at scenes and trying to mentally remove the aspect of colour was both challenging and refreshing. It’s almost like you swap out the colour for highlights and shadows. These are the make or break features of a black and white photograph, which in-turn makes you take better colour photos. I’d definitely recommend at least dabbling in b+w, but e wary of different processing as I found that HP5 cannot be processed in all labs and has to be sent to Ilford themselves. A good way around this is by shooting XP2 instead but many prefer the grain pattern and frequency of HP5. Find your balance and go with it.

Anyway, here’s film 5:
